The scenic turnouts here offer captivating views of offshore rock formations. Highway One is a ribbon of black through this land which seasoned travelers have called some of the most beautiful scenery on earth. The roadsides near Manchester are lined with huge callas in spring, and in summer are decorated with wild carrot and radish flowers. Stately cypress trees punctuate the landscape and frame postcard vistas. In winter huge flocks of whistling(tundra) swans nest in the coastal wetlands north of Point Arena Lighthouse. The Highway also serves as Point Arena’s “Main Street” with shops, inns, restaurants and a theater.
